Jo Dennison
Jo is the Head of ACE (Academic Community of Excellence), who along with her team provide out of class guidance on academic subjects such as academic writing and referencing as well as maths and computing support. In addition to her extensive teaching and managerial experience, she has also gained business experience in HR, administration and sales. When she’s not teaching, she loves to read and watch Speedway live.
Jennifer McGrath
Jennifer is the Deputy Head of the ACE team. Jennifer’s background is in Business and English for Academic Purposes. She first started teaching in 2004 and has held posts in China, Australia and Ireland, as well as the UK. She moved to London in 2013 and it is her favourite city in the world. She especially enjoys taking long walks around the city, learning about new areas and trying out the local restaurants.
Novaira Rahman
Novaira is the Deputy Head of the ACE team. She provides support for maths and academic skills. She has an Undergraduate Degree in mathematics, a Masters in Teaching English and a Diploma in Education and Training (DET) with maths as a subject specialism. She has 10 years of experience teaching English and maths and still can’t decide which she enjoys the most. If there is any free time left after visiting family in five different cities across four countries, she goes out to explore the Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the UK and loves it!
Doyin is an ACE Team Lecturer who teaches and provides support with English and academic skills. She has been working in the British higher education sector for 10years and has taught students from Africa, Europe, Middle East, South East Asia, and South America. Doyin has a CELTA, BA in English Language and a Masters (Distinction) in English Language Teaching and linguistics. She has a passion for empowering others to learn and this has informed her devotion to academic skills acquisition and development. Doyin loves spending time with friends and family and enjoys reading and travelling.
Matthew Fletcher
Matt is a member of the ACE Team, supporting students throughout their studies. He has over ten years experience of teaching English to learners from all over the world, helping them to fulfil their academic goals, both in the UK and abroad. He has a BA in English and Creative Writing, in addition to a DELTA. Matt also has a longstanding interest in counselling and psychology, particularly in regards to education, learning and development. As well as spending time with his young family, Matt also enjoys listening to, playing and making music.
Lorna Brown
Lorna is a member of the ACE Team, supporting students through their academic studies. Before working in higher education, Lorna taught English to Speakers of Other Languages in adult education settings; she has also worked in teacher development. She has an M.A in Teaching English (ESOL) and a Master of Teaching. She very much enjoys working with students, particularly if she can help someone have a Eureka moment. Her particular interests are in the use of source material in writing, logical structure and clear expression.
Hemalatha Raj
Hema is the ACE Computing Tutor who provides out of class support and guidance on skills relating to Computing programmes as well as maths. She has a B.E in Electronics and an MSc in Telecommunications and Computer Networks Engineering. Hema also has more than 15 years of experience in teaching and software development along with a blend of both. She has a diverse set of IT skills and has had varied roles in the software field for many years. She has a special interest in Cybersecurity and looks forward to doing her research in the same field in the near future.
