QA Higher Education is thrilled to kick start 2023 with new BSc Computing courses offered at the Northumbria University London campus. With the digital revolution well on its way, we’ve seen an increase of new, digital requirements within the job market. To support this growing demand for more specialised career streams, the BSc (Hons) Computing (with) portfolio is curated to give students an edge in today’s rapidly evolving, digital job market.

Expanding QA Higher Education’s undergraduate offering in London, the BSc Computing portfolio includes 5 specialisations, equipping students with IT, data science, cyber security and AI skills to win in the digital revolution.

The new courses include:

Empowering future generations

In 2021, Gartner predicted that by 2023, data literacy will become integral to driving value for a business. Yet, a recent report commissioned by Virgin media O2, estimates the shortage in data computing and analytical skill in the UK alone has cost workers £5.69 billion and the economy £12.8 billion a year. And, more than half of organisations (55%) are facing digital data skill shortages. To meet this demand, the BSc (Hons) Computing (with) develops core skills, competencies and employability throughout and gives students the opportunity to specialise in their final year.

QA Higher Education, Dean of Faculty & Director of Research & Education, Dr Arshad Jamal said: “The past few years have seen an acceleration in organisations’ digital transformation combined with a dearth in talent to power effectively power this change. Empowering the new generation entering the workforce to be able to manage this digital evolution has now become critical. It’s prudent for undergraduate degrees to reflect the changing world of work and prepare graduates for employment in an increasingly digital world. As such a degree in Computing is a valuable investment for individuals who want to build a career in this ever dynamic and rapidly growing IT Industry.”

“We continue to develop and refine our degree offerings with Northumbria University London to ensure our students are equipped with the best possible skillset and knowledge for the digital world.”

What to expect from the BSc (Hons) Computing with programme

Students will be equipped with knowledge of core computing and digital technologies, understanding computer programming, and data and software analytics. These programmes also cultivate knowledge of Artificial Intelligence, machine learning programming and development, cyber security, cloud computing, internet of everything, user experience design and big data.

With multiple entry points, students can join the courses at different levels provided they meet the criteria set out.

The courses include a blend of theoretical and practical learning. Exposing students to work-based learning experiences in the form of internships, consultancy projects and professional practice in their second year. Thus, enabling students to manage and adapt to working in a digital world.
