Chief Academic Officer

Professor Helen O’Sullivan joined QAHE as Chief Academic Officer in January 2026, bringing extensive senior leadership experience across Russell Group, pre 1992, and post 1992 universities.  Before joining QAHE, she was Deputy Vice Chancellor and Provost at the University of Chester, where she led major education and digital transformation and oversaw the establishment of Chester Medical School.

Helen has held a range of senior academic leadership roles focused on widening participation, curriculum innovation, learning and teaching excellence, and digital education.  She is a Trustee of Jisc and has previously served on the boards of Advance HE and was Chair of the Association for Learning Technology.

Helen was originally appointed Professor of Medical Education at the University of Liverpool and is currently Visiting Professor at Liverpool Hope University.

Outside of work, Helen is a member of REX Boat Club in Chester and regularly rows, and occasionally races, on the river Dee.
