New Undergraduate Top-Up Degree at Northumbria University London Campus

QA Higher Education and Northumbria University are delighted to announce the addition of a new undergraduate Top-Up degree at the London Campus. The BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance (Top-Up) will have its first intake in September 2019, and joins a portfolio of Top-Up programmes.

As financial markets become increasingly intertwined across the globe, and with many businesses operations, no matter the size, expanding beyond borders through supply chains and consumers, the need for well-skilled graduates in accounting and finance is growing. The ability to identify opportunities and threats in financial trends, whilst accounting in a compliant and ethical way are core skillsets required by employers.

With a particular focus on international business operations, the 1-year programme combines essential business knowledge alongside specialist modules in accounting and finance, covering theories and techniques through problem based learning.

Employability is a core focus throughout the programme and as such, building transferable professional and managerial skills is integrated into the teaching. As part of the core modules, there is structured employability development throughout the year that allows for tailored career planning to promote future employability.

To ensure graduates of this programme have first-hand experience of financial markets and its data, students have access to databases such as FAME and ORISIS, preparing them for the step up to employment or further study.

The need for these 1-year Top-Up programmes are also growing, as students from across the world and domestically seek to upgrade their existing qualifications, be it an HND or Foundation Degree, to a prestigious undergraduate degree in just 1-year of study.

The BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance (Top-Up) allows students to build upon their existing diploma qualification and gain an undergraduate degree in a growing and dynamic field. The research informed, contemporary and applied content of this programme will provide graduates with a solid platform from which to pursue a successful career in accounting, finance and wider business disciplines. This builds upon our existing Top-Up provision in business, enterprise and computing, offering the option to gain an undergraduate degree in 1-year of study. We look forward to welcoming our first cohort in September 2019.”
